WE ARE PYTHON – A leading WordPress developer in the UK
WordPress is the world’s most popular Content Management System (CMS) and by a long way. According to web tech survey site w3techs, WordPress runs on 59.5% of all websites that use a CMS and is the backbone of a whopping 32.5% of EVERY SINGLE website that’s currently online.
That means roughly 70,000,000 websites have been built using WordPress.
Some more mind-boggling WordPress stats:
- 117,939,148,357 words were published using WordPress in 2016 alone
- WordPress blogs receive over 400,000,000 unique visitors each month
- And those 400,000,000 unique visitors view over 22,400,000,000 individual pages each month
- WordPress is available in over 50 languages and that number is growing

What is a WordPress website?
A WordPress website is any website that uses wordpress to manage the content the user sees.
Every website has two sides, the front-end and the back-end.
The front-end
The front-end is what the user sees, it’s what you are looking at right now.
You have the article, pictures, the menu bar at the top, all of those kinds of things make up the front-end. The front-end should be unique to every website and it’s where you get to design your site so it looks how you like.
It’s also important because it’s the first opportunity you get to show off your brand (logo, colours, font etc…).

What our front-end homepage looks like.
In the world of WordPress, the front-end design is known as a Theme.
One of the great things about WordPress is the ability to change themes at the click of a button. Some themes allow you to customise them to a certain degree, others not so much.
There are free themes that come pre-installed with WordPress, and other ‘premium’ themes you have to pay for.
Whilst pre-built premium themes, and sometimes even free themes, can be ok for some people who aren’t really looking to create a strong brand on their site, they aren’t something we suggest for businesses. Many hobbyist bloggers use them, in which case that’s probably fine.
But for businesses looking to establish themselves online and build a brand, pre-built themes (both free and premium) simply aren’t good enough. When it comes to website development, one size doesn’t fit all.
A custom WordPress theme that specifically meets your needs is the way to go, but more on this later.
The back-end
The back-end is where you actually write your articles, upload your pictures and access many of the site’s functions.
For this reason, the back-end of most WordPress sites looks very similar.
After you’re happy with how the front-end of your site looks, you’ll spend most of your time as a website owner or manager in the back-end adding content.

Creating a new post in the back-end of a WordPress site

Hitting publish is one of life’s greatest pleasures
Once you’ve finished writing your post and it’s ready to be put out there for the world to see, you hit the publish button (as a content writer I can tell you that there is nothing quite as satisfying as re-reading your work one last time and hitting that button).
Anyway, once you press publish WordPress will send your article to the front-end and present it however you set it up to.
Advantages of using WordPress
Here at WE ARE PYTHON, we develop all manner of websites for our clients across the United Kingdom. But for those people who plan to run a content-based site and post regular articles, WordPress is usually the solution we recommend.
There is a long list of reasons why WordPress is such a great CMS but here are just a few:
- It’s flexible and scalable
- Together with a well-coded theme, it’s extremely fast
- Great security
- It’s regularly being updated to fix bugs and improve performance
- Easily allows multiple authors to contribute, each with their own account
- Customisable
- Very user-friendly back-end
- Great for SEO. In other words, Google loves WordPress sites.
- A whole host of freely available plugins makes adding extra functionality easy
- Easy to make responsive sites
- There is a huge WordPress community out there who help each other get the most out of the platform
WordPress development services we offer
Custom WordPress Themes
Custom WordPress theme development is one of our most sought-after services. Most of the time it’s business owners who have tried to create a WordPress website on their own. They have spent £40-£50 on a ‘premium’ theme, or worse still they try to use a free one. After hours and hours of trying to customise it to fit with their brand image, they give up and ask for help.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, the way premium themes are marketed would lead you to believe they can do it all.
Unfortunately, unless you don’t mind trying to make your brand work around your website as opposed to making your website around your brand, you will struggle.
Like I said before, pre-built themes might be ok for casual bloggers, but they aren’t suitable for businesses.
WordPress Plugin Development
With WordPress, you are able to install plugins which provide your website with additional functionality. It’s a simple way of adding things like contact forms, security and firewall protection, caching etc…
Although there are over 43,000 plugins available in the official WordPress repository, sometimes it’s necessary to have custom plugins developed.
It’s impossible to cross-test every plugin with every other plugin. So it’s not uncommon to find that a number of plugins will clash with each other and end up breaking your site. I used this saying before but it’s so relevant I will reiterate it again: When it comes to website development, one size doesn’t fit all.
We can help to develop any plugins that you might need to run a smooth WordPress website.
WordPress eCommerce Development
We can help you develop a stunning eCommerce store from the ground up.
Whether you’re a brick-and-mortar business, or your shop only exists in cyberspace, having an online storefront that is a pleasure for your customers to use is essential. When it comes to eCommerce and WordPress, your best bet is something called WooCommerce.
Think of WooCommerce like an add-0n that allows you to create an online shop on your website.
It seamlessly integrates with WordPress and its user-friendly backend which is why we recommend it. It makes the job of keeping your online store up-to-date with new inventory as easy as checking your email.
You don’t need to be an IT expert to maintain an online shop with WooCommerce, but you do need to be an expert during the initial development.
Customisation of Existing WordPress Themes
For people who already run a WordPress website, a brand new custom design might not be the answer you are looking for. If you are looking to update your existing theme then we can do that too.
Whether it’s a design change or a fundamental re-work of its basic functionality, we can help you create the website you need.
Although it is often better to build a site from the ground up, there may be times when tweaking an existing theme is the most hassle-free and efficient way of dealing with design changes. When you get in touch, we will discuss which path would be best to go down.
